I googled it and found the serial number charts on Ruger 's website, but my serial number doesn't seem to fit into any of the categories. It's serial num 770-07005. The M 77 Mkll starts at 780-xxxxx and the M 77 chart only has a 2 digit serial number prefix. Therefore I'm a little confused. If mine was just 70-07005, then it would be a 1969 model ..what's throwing me off is that it starts with 770. Your M 77 was likely made in very late 1985-early 1986. Dating Ruger 's can be somewhat tricky when the gun is made during a transitional period. Also, serial numbers are NOT necessarily chronological, and may be shipped far out of numerical sequence.
